Hans van der Merwe wood turning.What Hans van der Merwe began as a hobby from a small home workshop in White River over three decades ago, has developed into a thriving business.

His son, Louis, joined him in 1990 and steered Hans van der Merwe & Son through the rapid expansion, which was to follow. 

Hans van der Merwe & Son has become widely renowned for tasteful and finely crafted French and classical-style furniture.

The range includes reproduction Georgian and Victorian dining tables and chairs with all accessories. It also features signature beds, such as the beautiful Lit Bateau (sleigh bed), the French Empire with matching pedestals and dressing table, and the grand Four Poster with its magnificent hand-turned posts and legs.

Hans van der Merwe & Son furniture graces many of the prestigious lodges and hotels in the Lowveld, such as Camp Jabulani, Ulusaba Private Game Reserve, Kings Camp, Leopard Hills and the Singita Lodges. 

Among the most prestigious commissions have been to design bespoke furnishings for some of the most historic hotels in Maputo, the Cardosa and the Avenida. 

Leading South African hotels such the Cape Grace, de Hoek Country House, Syrene Hotel, The Quartermain Hotel and various South African embassies at home and abroad boast Hans van der Merwe furniture.
